Illinois School for the Deaf

Educating Today's Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students for Tomorrow's World

Athletics Home

JR High and High School students not only take part in specialized programs tailored to support their academic and social development, but they also engage in competitive athletic opportunities with peer schools for the deaf across multiple states, including Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Participation in high school sports fosters physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills, all of which are essential for personal growth during adolescence. These experiences promote social interaction, self-confidence, and school pride, while also offering students the chance to travel, represent their community, and form lasting friendships. Athletics empower young individuals to set goals, overcome challenges, and celebrate achievements—preparing them for success both on and off the field.
