Student Art on Display
This winter, Chicago Shakespeare Theater held an art exhibition for students in connection with their Short Shakespeare! Hamlet production. Students were provided with several quotes from the play and asked to select one to use as inspiration for an original piece of art. Once artwork was submitted, Chicago Shakespeare Theater selected the top 20 pieces for display in the theater lobby, with all submissions being shared online. One of our high school students, Rahne, completed a piece of artwork based on the line “The serpent that did sting thy father’s life now wears his crown.” Rahne's art was selected as one of the 20 best pieces and prominently displayed in the lobby of the Courtyard Theater. Our students and staff were very excited to get to see the display during their field trip to the theater yesterday for the production of Hamlet! This was Rahne’s first time submitting her artwork to any kind of competition, but we’re sure it won’t be her last! Congratulations, Rahne! Thank you to Mrs. Grieme for organizing this field trip to see Short Shakespeare! each year and encouraging our students to not only read, analyze, and perform Shakespeare's work during literature class but to also create art inspired by his words!
One final shoutout to ALL the students on this field trip yesterday! The staff reported you were prompt, respectful, responsible, and engaged! Thank you for representing ISD so well!
